Try to employ the Socratic method when teaching this book, as it is likely one of the first novels that students will have read in which they will have genuinely different perspectives about the various characters' motivations, actions, and beliefs. Students should be encouraged to discuss their different perspectives in depth, and work on finding text evidence to support the validity of their views, in order to develop more advanced analytical reading skills and expository writing/argumentation abilities.
