Relationship to Other Books

Richard III is one of several history plays that Shakespeare wrote, and is essentially a sequel to his three earlier Henry VI plays. However, since it's very unlikely that students will have read Shakespeare's history plays prior to reading Richard III, the works of the Bard that are most likely be most useful for teaching the play are Shakespeare's tragedies and comedies, particularly plays like Romeo and Juliet.
