When The Glass Castle came out in 2005, it was hailed as one of the best memoirs of the decade.

The book tells the story of Jeannette Walls's childhood, following her itinerant life as a young girl with her parents, the hard-drinking adventurer Rex and the flighty artist Rose Mary, and her three siblings, elder sister Lori, younger brother Brian, and younger sister Maureen. The Walls parents insist on travelling from place to place, regardless of their children's desires or needs; however, they spend Jeannette's teenage years impoverished in Welch, West Virginia, where Rex grew up. The children escape to New York City as soon as they can; a few years later, Rex and Rose Mary follow them...
