The Story of Sinuhe Lesson Plan

Introduction to The Story of Sinuhe

Initially discovered inscribed in a tomb, "The Story of Sinuhe" is one of the most respected works of ancient Egyptian literature. Although it was initially considered the factual account of a real courtier's experience, it is now largely considered a myth as much as fact.

The story follows Sinuhe's escape from a prince's service after the death of the king, where he establishes himself in a foreign land and later returns to Egypt with respect. It has been identified as coming from the 20th century BCE, with the earliest extant pieces dating from 18th century BCE.

Today, "The Story of Sinuhe" offers a rare look at the life and psychology of people living in ancient Egypt.
