Mumbo Jumbo starts in 1920 New Orleans. A new virus is on the loose, Jes Grew. Those that catch it are known to dance wildly, convulse, have sex, and listen to Jazz music. Jes Grew is vilified by those in power as it is viewed as a disruptor to Western culture and civilization.
The novel chronicles the spread of Jes Grew throughout the 1920s and across the nation.
