Anna in the Tropics is Nilo Cruz's most famous play, and won him the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2003. The play was originally commissioned by New Theatre in Miami, Florida, with support from the NEA/TCG Theatre Residency Program for Playwrights. It was first staged at New Theatre under the direction of Rafael del Acha, Artistic Director, and Eileen Suarez, Managing Director. The play moved to Broadway in November of 2003, where it was directed by Emily Mann.
