Introduction to James and the Giant Peach

Written by Roald Dahl in 1961, James and the Giant Peach was well received. The book was originally titled James and the Giant Cherry, but Dahl changed it because he thought a peach was "prettier, bigger, and squishier than a cherry." The original illustrations were drawn by Nancy Ekholm Burkert, though later editions used other illustrators. This was Dahl's second book for kids and in it, you can find references to stories he later wrote, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, and The BFG.
