The Hunger Games Lesson Plan

Introduction to The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is the first book in Suzanne Collins' massively-successful Hunger Games trilogy. The books follow the story of Katniss Everdeen, popular hero and reluctant rebel, and the parallel story of revolution against the oppressive regime of the Capitol. The Hunger Games champions the underprivileged and treats systems of oppression with a critical eye, noting the way structures of power perpetuate violence, poverty, and class warfare. The series has been adapted into a series of blockbuster films and is widely acknowledged as being one of the first works of Young Adult literature to have a substantial adult readership.
